Chris has an own strong strain for the overnight races, which is better known as “The Bleu Strain” in Holland. We must go back to 1977 to find the roots of this strain. At that time he brought in pigeons from late D. van Solingen from Oost-Voorne. This man had both Aarden pigeons from Cock van Eck, who was an excellent fancier at the time,and Stichelbout pigeons. A son of “De Ouwe” is “De Barcelona”: 81-1615058. This cock won the 20^th nat. Barcelona in 1985 and was, just like his father, a magnificent breeder as well. His descendants have already won 46 times in the first 50 national prizes (Sector 2 / Z.L.U.). The result of national Marseille’95 is illustrative for the breeding of “De Barcelona”. Till 1992 Chris had been working on his own strain for about 15 years, without purchasing pigeons from other fanciers. Because of the in-breeding all his pigeons were closely related and for that reason very useful to cross with other strains.
